Peaceful Promise is painted with the United States flag waving in the wind. Many artists do not include the flag but Oliver Johnson purposely included Old Glory because of its symbolism to original Saints of Nauvoo. They were very patriotic citizens and proud of the country they were forced out of and one of the major charges by the mobs was that of treason. This painting is a reminder of the love of God and country of the Latter Day-Saints.
