Nauvoo Temple Plate – Scovil Bakery

$16.95$19.95

Description

This is a beautiful replica of the original Nauvoo Temple Plate, commemorating the dedication of the Nauvoo Temple in May of 1846. The original plate was commissioned from the Twigg Potteries in Staffordshire by Lucius N. Scovil when he was on his mission in England in 1846.

In the center of the plate is a depiction of the original Nauvoo Temple. On the rim are the names of members of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and several other Church leaders serving at the time Elder Scovil left for his mission to England. He commissioned 50 dozen plates in 1846, and only 14 are known to exist at this time. One is on display at the historic Scovil Bakery in Nauvoo, IL – another is on display at the Heber C. Kimball home in Nauvoo – and 12 are housed at the Church History Museum in SLC, UT.

It was always thought that there were only blue Temple plates that had come from England but recently a small box of red plates were discovered in a home in Liverpool England.

9” round souvenir plate – hand wash – it’s food safe, but we don’t recommend eating on this plate.
