Description

The Prophet Joseph Smith told the Saints days before his death that they would gather to the “vastness of the Rocky Mountains.” Brigham Young told the people to prepare to move west and plans were made to leave peacefully in the spring of 1846. However, mob violence and word that troops were being sent to stop the Saints forced their early departure in the freezing temperatures of February. Broadside leaflets were posted throughout Nauvoo to let those who arrived after the Saints departure to go west.
