Description

When the Mormons settled Nauvoo on the banks of the Mississippi in 1839 they made self-defense a priority.   Having encountered persection, violence, and forcible expulsion elsewhere the Nauvoo Legion was organized.  Organized under Illinois law, the Nauvoo Legion was a city militia made up of mostly Latter-day Saints.  This artwork comes from a rare Nauvoo Legion drum
