As Joseph and Hyrum were preparing to leave Nauvoo for Carthage, Joseph gave Hyrum an opportunity to take his family and leave. Despite all of the prosecution endured previously working alongside and supporting his brother, Hyrum’s response was, “Joseph, I can’t leave you.” A week later they journeyed together to Carthage and became martyrs for Christ and His Church.
