As headquarters of the Church and home for many of its members from 1839 to 1846, Nauvoo was named be Joseph Smith to mean “a beautiful location, a place of rest”. the community flourished. Joseph Smith, acting as an agent for the Church, bought the Illinois farms – In all, 660 acres. Nauvoo was now home.
