Good Things to Eat from Old Nauvoo contains 64 carefully researched recipes plus anecdotes of early pioneer life in Nauvoo. For the most part, they ate as their frontier neighbors did. Culinary influences of early church members from New England, converts from England and Germany, as well as Native American neighbors are represented. Other good food came aboard the riverboats up the Mississippi from New Orleans. Nauvoo became a “melting pot” for a variety of nationalities and customs, and the cooking pots reflected that influence.
