As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we look to the living Prophet and Apostles as special witnesses of Jesus Christ (Doctrine and Covenants 107:23). Few lives illustrate this sacred calling more fully than that of President Russell M. Nelson. Since being called as an Apostle in April 1984, President Nelson has traveled to 133 countries, teaching and ministering in the name of the Savior. Wherever he has gone—whether in person or through digital means—his central message has always been clear: Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life.
This September 9, 2025, President Nelson will celebrate his 101st birthday. In recognition of this remarkable milestone, members and friends worldwide are encouraged to share how his words have influenced their faith and brought them closer to Christ using the hashtag #PresidentNelson101.
To honor his lifelong testimony, here are five timeless teachings President Nelson has shared about Jesus Christ and the power of His Atonement:
1. Jesus Christ Is the Source of Healing
“Because the Savior offered Himself as the infinite Atonement, you and I have the opportunity, the privilege, to be forgiven when we repent. We can also turn to Him for healing of our hearts, for strength where we are weak, and for help to do things we simply cannot do on our own.”
— Jerusalem, 2018
2. Jesus Christ Is the Source of Salvation
“The call to the Holy Apostleship is one of witness to the world of the divinity of the Lord Jesus the Christ. I know that salvation is centered in Him! Said the angel to King Benjamin [in the Book of Mormon]: ‘Salvation was, and is, and is to come, in and through the atoning blood of Christ, the Lord Omnipotent.’”
— General Conference, April 1984
3. Jesus Christ Is Our Reason for Optimism
“The best is yet to come, my dear brothers and sisters, because the Savior is coming again! The best is yet to come because the Lord is hastening His work. The best is yet to come as we fully turn our hearts and our lives to Jesus Christ.”
— General Conference, October 2024
4. Jesus Christ Is Our Master
“We honor [Jesus] as the most important individual ever to live on Planet Earth. He is Jesus the Christ — our Master and more. … Wherever I walk, it is my divine calling and sacred privilege to bear fervent testimony of Jesus the Christ. He lives! I love him. Eagerly I follow him, and willingly I offer my life in his service. As his special witness, I solemnly teach of him. I testify of him.”
— BYU Devotional, February 1992
5. Jesus Christ Is Our Hope for Life After Death
“Thanks to the Atonement of Jesus Christ, our bodies, corruptible in mortality, will become incorruptible. Our physical frames, now subject to disease, death, and decay, will acquire immortal glory. Presently sustained by the blood of life and ever aging, our bodies will be sustained by spirit and become changeless and beyond the bounds of death.”
— General Conference, October 1995
A Prophet’s Consistent Testimony
President Nelson’s ministry is a reminder that Jesus Christ is at the center of everything. His witness has carried him across continents, into sacred pulpits, and into the lives of millions seeking hope and truth. As we reflect on his 101 years of life and service, may we also renew our own commitment to come unto Christ—our Healer, our Savior, our Master, and our eternal Hope.
