As the final speaker of the first session of the April 2023 general conference, President Henry B. Eying, second counselor in the First Presidency, taught about the miracle of finding personal peace through the Savior.
“The gift of peace is given after we have the faith to keep His commandments,” President Eyring said. However, keeping the Lord’s commandments requires love of God. “I pray that you may find peace, help many others find it, and pass it along.”
The Saturday morning session also featured remarks by three members of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, the Young Women General President and two General Authority Seventies.
While conducting the meeting, President Dallin H. Oaks, First Counselor in the First Presidency, noted the absence of Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, who is at home recovering from COVID-19.
In her sixth general conference address, Young Women General President Bonnie H. Cordon encouraged listeners to draw closer to the Savior, Jesus Christ. “Look for Christ everywhere ― I promise He is there,” she said.
In his remarks, Elder Quentin L. Cook of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles taught the doctrine of the gathering of Israel and invited all to review President Russell M. Nelson’s counsel to engage in the important work.
Elder Gary E. Stevenson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles detailed the Easter story in 3 Nephi. “The Book of Mormon shares the greatest Easter story ever told. Let it not be the greatest Easter story never told.”
Everywhere Elder Gerrit W. Gong of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles goes, he said, he gratefully learns from those who minister and care for others as the Savior would. “As we minister as He would, we witness His blessings and miracles,” said Elder Gong.
Elder Carl B. Cook of the Presidency of the Seventy taught that God will help individuals overcome discouragement and other obstacles if they “look to Him, follow the promptings of the Holy Ghost and just keep going — with faith.”
Following God’s chosen prophet leads to safety and strength, taught Elder Allen D. Haynie, a General Authority Seventy. “Knowing by revelation that there is a living prophet on the earth changes everything,” he said.
Music was provided by the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square with directors Mack Wilberg and Ryan Murphy and accompanied by organists Richard Elliott and Brian Mathias.
Prayers were offered by Elder Benjamin M.Z. Tai, a General Authority Seventy, and President Mark L. Pace, Sunday School general president.
